Join us for an beautiful ride over the river and through the quiet city streets to our great Triple-A baseball park to see the ‘Cats. It’s a steal at just $9!
Sunday, June 6 is coming up fast!
Email me at sackm@boun.cr for tickets!
Our November Food & Clothing Donation Drive & Ride was a success, even with Mother Nature throwing some inclement weather our way.
We had about 20 riders and delivered 420lbs of food and warm clothing to Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (some of which was donated during the month at the three Sacramento Old Soul Co. coffee cafes, some of which was brought the day of the ride by our intrepid cyclists). We gathered at Grant Park in upper Midtown, meandered down the (mostly) quiet streets to pick up donation barrels at the Old Soul locations, then cruised over to Oak Park for the final pick-up and drop off.
I’m guessing there were more than a few passersby and motorists who didn’t quite know what to make of us. I’ll say it again: when we parade down the road, we just may be the world’s least intimidating biker gang.
I’m proud of everyone who participated, and we’re looking forward to doing it again next year!
Here’s the Flyer and info for the JULY KIDICAL MASS ride: RiverCats-Edition! It’s Sunday, July 13!
We’ll be meeting up at Fremont Park at 11:00am, (not that you have to be there that early), and heading out by 11:40 to ride to Raley Field for the last day game of the season. Email us at sackm@boun.cr to get tickets in our lawn section for just $8! (You can show up, day-of, for $10–still a great deal).
Game time is 1:00pm. The game should be crowded, but–luckily–as cyclist we get to use the FREE BICYCLE VALET lot.
To get on the ticket list, or for more information, please email me at sackm@boun.cr
Thanks, and we’ll see you JULY 13th!
Join us on Sat, Feb 22th for a ride to Crocker Art Museum.
Join us at 9:45 at Southside Park’s Northeast Corner for some mingling before we ride off at 10:30 to the museum.
You can brown-bag a lunch or partake in the kid- and adult-friendly food options at The Crocker Cafe.
All exhibits are open and the interactive children’s area, TOT LAND, is great for kids, as is the scavenger hunt you can take as a whole family. There are also two huge courtyards for strolling and exploring.
You can also take part in the optional docent-led tour at 11am!
Bike racks are at the main entrance, the western street side, and across from the entrance at Crocker Park.
Costs are: Adults – $10 / Seniors (65 and older) – $8 / College Students – $8 / Youth (7–17) – $5 / Children (6 and under) – Free. However, we will have some free entry options for children and some adults, (as we have some museum members riding with us who can get some people in), so please don’t let the cost stop you from joining us–we can help!
Our Sacramento Kidical Mass ride this last Saturday was quite an enjoyable success. About 70 folks, representing all age groups and almost every kind of pedaled conveyance, converged outside of Practical Cycle in Old Sac with donations for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services in tow.
After a nice time of kibitzing, perusing, and trying out each other’s bikes, our motley crew got into formation and slowly trickled out of Old Sac to make our way through Downtown to our final destination in Midtown.
Past the beautiful Sacramento River, over the freeway and into Downtown we cruised, thankful that the week’s intense winds had taken a siesta. (Earlier in the week, it was quite possible that gale-force winds, as well as rain, would be our cycling companions). Not only was the weather not to be contended with, but traffic was non-existent, too, which is always nice.
We arrived–safe and sound with our peloton intact–at Edible Pedal in Midtown. We transferred our clothing and food donations from the bikes to the big blue barrels from SFBFS, then enjoyed some more time to swap stories, ideas and advice (I picked up a few helpful tips for winter riding and more than a few ideas for future customizing projects).
Special thanks to Elle and everyone at Sac Kidical Mass, Practical Cycle, Edible Pedal, Old Soul Co., and Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, and all the riders and helpers for a wonderful time benefiting a wonderful cause.
Please bring a donation of food or warm clothing for the food bank.
All children under 18 need to wear a helmet and adults are greatly encouraged to wear one as well. We will be following the rules of the road as we ride.
Saturday, October 26, 2013, 4:30pm – 6:30pm
We’re excited to share about this month’s special Halloween Edition of Sacramento Kidical Mass! We’ll have bike decorating, fun activities for the kids (young and old), treats, and maybe even a trick or two. Please come and join us! It’s free and you don’t have to register beforehand or anything–just show up with your crew and your bike(s) for a pre-Halloween bike-tastic event!
From the Sacramento Kidical Mass Facebook page:
We’ll be starting at the playground at Sierra II Center (2791 24th St. but possibly around the corner from this address). As we gather around 4:30pm, we’ll have some bike decorating time, costume fun, and goodies to hand out. Around sunset, we’ll be heading off for a 3 mile ride around the quiet Curtis Park neighborhood and ending at a Halloween-y house.
**Make sure to bring night-riding gear. Dress up yourselves and your bikes!**

This Saturday we were lucky to be able to join our friends in Sacramento Kidical Mass for a fun ride with tons of kids, more than a few funky bikes, and a plethora of gourmet doughnuts.
Our friend Elle (as per usual) set up a great morning: we met in Midtown at Grant Park for some playtime/chat-time, rode en masse down to the River City’s tastiest and most unique treat shop (the fantastic DOUGHBOT), and then to Southside Park for more playing and hanging out.
Kidical Mass is a national movement, but Elle and friends spearhead the Sacramento group, and it’s a wonderful, simple thing. Adults + kids + bikes + enjoying the outdoors + some sort of delicious treats = a great time had by all.
It’s fun to see how other people/families ride, and when all the bikes are gathered, we invariably ooh and ahh over what everyone’s done to customize their rides (or build from the ground up, in some super-impressive cases). I’ve gotten many good ideas and much useful advice from these conscientious and creative folk. I feel lucky to be part of the Kidical Mass community.
When we ride all together from meeting place to destination, we resemble the world’s least-intimidating biker gang.
Finishing up at Doughbot, then on to Southside Park for some, to parts unknown for others.
Here are some upcoming dates for Sac Kidical Mass gatherings:
October 26th: Halloween Ride! Dress up your bike and yourselves for some spooky and silly fun! Prizes will be awarded for unique costumes.
November 23rd: Fairytale Town Ride! Meet at Southside Park for a ride to Fairytale Town for a picnic lunch. Tickets are approx. $5/person (discounts available if we get a group of 25+)
December 28th: Hot Cocoa Ride! It’s hard to imagine that the weather will ever get cool again but let’s plan for a warm treat after this chilly ride.
Special January 1st: Ride to Sutter’s Landing to welcome the New Year at the American River.
